RM5mil for road construction, upgrade in Pekan Nanas

Road upgrading works being carried out in Pekan Nanas.

A developer has spent RM5mil on road construction and upgrades to reduce traffic congestion and accidents in Pekan Nanas, Johor.

Paragon Globe Bhd executive chairman Datuk Sri Edwin Tan Pei Seng said road upgrading works at Pekan Sentral and Pekan Nenas Industrial Park would improve safety and bring convenience to road users.

“The volume of traffic has increased significantly in recent years,” he said.

He noted that a sharp bend of a road in the area had become an accident-prone site with several incidents recorded.

As such, he said, the company decided to bear the cost of road works to improve safety.

In addition to the road upgrade, it built a new one kilometre stretch from Pontian to Johor Baru, turning the road into a dual carriageway.

“Although the Pontian-Johor Baru road is already open, some parts are still being resurfaced and works are expected to be completed by this month,” said Tan.

He said the company was optimistic about the future development in Pekan Nanas following the road upgrade.

“We are committed to developing and expanding through our flagship projects, namely Pekan Sentral and Pekan Nenas Industrial Park.

“I believe the projects will create job opportunities for local communities and benefit the people in Pontian,” he added.

Tan said Pekan Sentral was strategically located next to the main highway from Skudai to Pontian and easily accessible via several major highways such as the North-South Highway and Coastal Highway.
