COLD Stone Creamery Malaysia is stepping up its efforts to go green by eliminating plastic straws and serving spoons from its outlets, and replacing them with biodegradable paper straws and wooden serving spoons with immediate effect.
This move is in line with Cold Stone Creamery’s franchise’s efforts to opt for eco-friendly options where possible.
Cold Stone Creamery Malaysia opened its first flagship store in Pavilion KL in January 2018, and has outlets in MyTown Cheras, Bukit Jelutong and will soon be opening in Gardens Mall.
Founded in 1988, Arizona, United States, Cold Stone Creamery is best known for its signature creations, a range of make-your-own desserts that lets customers pick their choice of mix-ins, all theatrically combined on a frozen granite slab.
The store offers 36 ice cream flavours which are handcrafted fresh daily, using local ingredients, including flavours such as chunky mango, lychee, and yam.
By ditching plastic serving spoons and straws, it is estimated that Cold Stone Creamery Malaysia will be saving approximately 250,000 plastics a year from ending up in landfills, and with a growing number of outlets, this number would increase in the future.
“We believe we need to do our part to save our planet, and we have made this concerted effort to go green.
“Our loyal customers should be delighted with our efforts, so that they can fully enjoy the ice cream experience.
“We have gone through careful research and testing, and opted for 100% paper straws and biodegradable wooden spoons,” said Cold Stone Creamery Malaysia executive director Datuk Aubry Mennesson.
