Financial boost for the Games

PENANG-BASED property development company Ewein Zenith Sdn Bhd has contributed RM500,000 towards the Asia Pacific Masters Games (APMG) 2018.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state government has on its part allocated RM4.5mil towards the Games as the event’s main organiser.

“The amount is still insufficient. Last week, we announced sponsorships amounting to RM2mil from the private sector.

“Those were in-kind sponsorships,” Chow told a pressconference at his office in Komtar on Friday.

He thanked Ewein Zenith for its contribution, noting that it would go a long way towards ensuring a better and smoother organisation of the Games.

Also present were APMG Penang 2018 president Chong Eng, Ewein Zenith managing director Datuk Ewe Swee Kheng, chief financial officer Chan Gooi Yew and chief executive officer Leon Lee.

The APMG Penang is the first-ever Masters Games to be heldin Asia with a total of 22 sports contested.

The events are archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, cycling, football, golf, hockey, lion dance, netball, pencak silat, shooting, softball, squash, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, tenpin bowling, volleyball, weightlifting and wushu.

The competitions will be held over nine days until Sept 15 at several venues around Penang, both on the island and mainland.

A total of 5,564 athletes from 64 countries are participating in this event.
