AN ACCIDENT-prone T-junction in Rasa, Hulu Selangor will have new traffic lights installed.
Installation work on the traffic lights at KM51, Jalan Kuala Lumpur-Ipoh started yesterday and is expected to start functioning by next month.
During a visit to the site yesterday, Barisan Nasional candidate for Kuala Kubu Bharu Datuk Wong Koon Mun said there had been 19 deaths at the T-Junction and many accidents had taken place.
“Since traffic along this road has become more busy over the years with increasing population, traffic lights are vital.
“I feel for the people’s need and personally monitored it,” said Wong.
Motorist Wong Koon Peng, 61, who lives in Kampung Chuang said he knocked a motorcyclist last year at the dangerous junction.
“The motorcyclist lost a few of his teeth and injured his hand,” he said.
Lim Tien Yoong, 51, who resides in Taman Rasa Utama, witnessed several accidents at the junction and is grateful for the traffic lights.
Kampung Chuang villager Apparao Appanah, 59, said in Rasa, many people did not use the helmet, endangering theirs and their children’s lives.
“It is dangerous, especially when these motorcyclists use the T-junction. It is a blessing for us if the traffic lights are completed,” he said.
