‘Sarikei win will bring progress’

SIBU: A win for Barisan Nasional in the Sarikei parliamentary constituency in the general election augurs well for continued development of the division.

Should the party win the election, the division would have three wakil rakyat from Barisan.

In the 2016 state election, two SUPP candidates, Ding Kuong Hiing and Dato Seri Huang Tiong Sii, helped Barisan recapture Meradong and Repok respectively from DAP.

Incumbent Wong Ling Biu from DAP is expected to lock horns with a candidate from SUPP in a straight fight in this predominantly Chinese seat.

SUPP has shortlisted the Chief Minister’s political secretary, Teng Ung Woo as its candidate. Teng is SUPP Central Youth Wing secretary-general.

Ding said with the right candidate, SUPP had a good chance of regaining the seat.

The area was previously under the Opposition with two assemblymen and an MP.

“The people can expect more development if we win the election as we will then have three representatives.

Hopefully, we can win big in the parliamentary polls to get our state’s rights back from the Federal Government,” said Ding, adding he is optimistic about Teng’s chances.

Teng is the right candidate as he has been on the ground for a long time.

“He is very hardworking, approachable and can mix well with people at the grassroots level. So I hope voters will give him a chance,” said Ding.
