PETALING JAYA: Four locations in Johor and Sarawak recorded unhealthy air pollutant index (API) readings.
As of 6pm yesterday, Pasir Gudang and Larkin in Johor recorded readings of 155 and 152 respectively, while IPD Serian and Sri Aman in Sarawak stood at 128 and 112.
Most of the country recorded moderate air quality, with API readings at 60 monitoring stations ranging between 52 and 99.
Three locations – Taiping in Perak, Langkawi in Kedah and Kangar in Perlis – recorded good air quality.
The highest API reading recorded during the current transboundary haze episode was 521 in Serian earlier in September.
The Meteorological Department said haze conditions are expected to persist until the end of the month.
According to the Asean Specialised Meteorological Centre (ASMC), dry conditions were expected over many parts of the southern Asean region over the next few days.
However, showers are forecast for northern and central Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia and northern Borneo.
ASMC said air quality could improve in areas receiving showers but remain poor in locations facing prolonged dry weather, maintaining the risk of ongoing transboundary haze.
“Isolated hotspots and smoke plumes may develop in areas facing prolonged dry conditions.”
