SHAH ALAM: Several accounts containing extremely offensive content, including the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) to humiliate Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad during the funeral of Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali, have been identified, says Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.

The Communications Minister said the Malaysian Comm- unications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and police were working together to identify those behind the accounts.

“The authorities will take action. I myself saw that the account in question had disappeared.

“We are not yet certain whether it was a fake account, but the MCMC, together with the police, are tracking down anyone who produced extremely offensive content in relation to this matter,” he said during the Madani Kita Programme here yesterday.

Fahmi also reminded the media to respect Dr Mahathir and his family’s privacy.

Fahmi added that he had also reminded the public, including citizen journalists, to respect the family’s privacy.

“Some people feel that we should give them space and that we should not, including citizen journalists, have members of the public approaching Tun Dr Mahathir at this time to ask how he is feeling.

“We should give him time, as requested by the family’s representative, Datuk Seri Mukhriz,” he said.

As for members of the public with concerns over media reports, headlines or other matters, Fahmi said they should direct their complaints to the Malaysian Media Council.

He added that grievances should be submitted through the proper channels to avoid misunderstandings that could affect the media industry’s integrity and credibility.
