Food fair in aid of needy patients

Lau says the hospital gives RM100,000 to poor patients every month.

MOUNT Miriam Cancer Hospital’s ‘Ho Chiak’ Charity Food Fair 2018 is scheduled to take place on May 6 in Penang.

The hospital board chairman John Lau said the target was to raise at least RM600,000 from the food fair.

“If our food fair coincides with the general election, we may postpone the event until after the polls.

“We will wait and see if we need to change the date,” Lau told reporters during a press conference in Komtar.

Lau said the hospital disbursed about RM100,000 to needy patients each month.

“We are a not-for-profit hospital but this does not mean that we cannot give the best to all our cancer patients.

“I’m glad to announce that since last year, we have put in place four projects which we hope will benefit our needy patients,” he added.

Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the state was very keen to support Mount Miriam Hospital’s fundraising efforts.

“Therefore, the state is handing over a contribution of RM60,000 from my allocation,” he said.

He then presented a cheque to the hospital.
