FLOWER and ornamental tree enthusiasts can expect a bigger and more impressive Kuala Lumpur Orchid and Bonsai Show (KLOBS) when it returns on Dec 2, with 300 bonsai trees and 500 orchids going on display at Taman Pudu Ulu in Cheras.
As the event will take place during the school holidays, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) expects to draw about 70,000 visitors to the nine-day showcase.
DBKL Planning Department executive director Datuk Najib Mohd said this year, KLOBS aimed to help promote Taman Pudu Ulu to local and international visitors.
He encouraged and welcomed the public’s involvement in the upcoming show at the metropo-litan public recreational park, located 850m from the Maluri LRT and MRT stations.
“Visitors can expect new additions in terms of bonsai species, such as penjing and mini, as well as orchid hybrids Vanda, Aranda and Cattleya.
“We will also add colourful lights to the area where the showcase will be because this is the first time KLOBS will be open until 10pm daily and safety is priority,” he said.
Najib added that DBKL would also organise a bonsai and orchid competition during the event, with three new awards up for grabs – DBKL Award, Bonsai Club International Award and The Floral Queen Award.
More than 15 countries, including Brunei, Thailand and Japan, are expected to take part in the orchid competition offering a RM50,000 prize.
Visitors will have the oppor-tunity to learn about caring for orchids and bonsai as well as buy flowers from the stalls.
Other activities include a floral fashion show, KLOBS Got Talent, graffiti wall painting and flower arrangement competition.
The previous KLOBS was held in 2015 and featured orchid growers from the United States, Australia and Hong Kong.
KLOBS 2017 will be open from 9am to 10pm daily from Dec 2 to 10. Admission is free.
