A charity tournament has raised some RM1.3mil to support a development initiative for at-risk youth.

Selangor Crown Prince Golf Charity Cup 2025 raised funds for TEAM Programme Malaysia (TPM), with the fundraiser graced by Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.

Aiman Syafiq Nazri, chief executive officer of Selangor Youth Community (SAY) which runs TPM, said the funds would be utilised for its programmes.

The tournament at Kota Permai Golf & Country Club brought together 132 players from government agencies and private companies.

In his address, Tengku Amir Shah said TPM was a collaboration between SAY and The King’s Trust International.

He said sustaining the initiative required collective support, describing the charity tournament as vital in keeping TPM “alive and thriving”.

“For the year 2025 alone, we have been able to impact close to 181 young people, each coming from diverse backgrounds and facing unique challenges.”

Aiman said TPM was a nine-week programme focused on helping participants transition to education, training or employment.

“Communication, teambuilding and leadership are what TPM focuses on.”

He said the employability side included resume-building as well as financial literacy and a post-progression phase of up to six months.

SAY works closely with employment partners during this phase to match participants with a suitable internship or job.

The programme targets 150 to 200 young people per year through collaborations with National Anti-Drug Agency and the Welfare Department, supplementing existing rehabilitation efforts.

A charity auction during the fundraising event added to the collection from sponsorships and participation fees.

A pickleball session with Tengku Amir Shah was auctioned for RM40,000, while dinner with him at the Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur went for RM50,000. — By CY LEE
