When it comes to heritage tours in George Town, Penang, often they are done on foot or while riding a rickshaw.
Now there is a novel way of exploring the historical city, which will particularly pique the interest of vintage car enthusiasts.
The 1926 Heritage Hotel Penang is currently giving its guests a chance to go on a drive around the city in a 1960 Jaguar Mark II or similar vintage car.
Called The Heritage Discovery Drive, it is part of the hotel’s Centennial Discovery Drive package that’s presented in partnership with Classic Wheels Signature.
The package is in turn part of the Centennial Local Discovery Series launched by the five-star hotel in celebration of its 100th year on Jalan Burma.
"For us, the centennial is not simply about celebrating the past. It is an opportunity to help guests connect with the Penang that exists around us today – its neighbourhoods, people and experiences," Angelina Lazuardi, general manager, 1926 Heritage Hotel Penang, said in a press statement.
Available until Nov 27, the package includes a one-night stay in a Heritage Room at the hotel and a 30-minute drive, while dressed in Nyonya wear by luxury boutique atelier Foi Memoire. The drive includes one photo stop.
The chauffeur-driven journey will begin at the hotel, down Northam Road and the city’s historic civic and waterfront district. After going pass Fort Cornwallis and Beach Street’s old commercial centre, it will go through historic cultural landmarks before terminating at the hotel.
This is just the first of several local collaborations that the hotel has planned for its centennial series. In the months ahead, there will be more packages introduced that will involve Penang artisans, food specialists and independent local makers.
