PETALING JAYA: Bursa Malaysia expects trading activity to remain influenced by global and regional market conditions, geopolitical developments and investor sentiment, following stronger performance in the first nine months of 2026 (9M26).

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the exchange operator said it remained “well-positioned” to achieve its 2026 headline key performance indicators or KPIs.

These include a return on equity of between 27% and 30%, non-trading revenue growth of more than 10% and total initial public offering (IPO) market capitalisation of RM34bil.

A “healthy” IPO pipeline and ongoing market development initiatives are expected to support its performance for the remainder of the year.

During 9M26, Bursa Malaysia saw 47 IPOs raising RM6.1bil and contributing RM28.7bil in market capitalisation.

“Bursa Malaysia led Asean by number of IPOs and funds raised during the period,” it noted.

Bursa Malaysia said measures announced under Budget 2027 are expected to encourage more enterprises to pursue public listings, while a proposed matching grant for listing costs under the Malaysia-Hong Kong dual-listing pathway could support the IPO pipeline and broaden access to investors.

“These initiatives are expected to further support the growth and vibrancy of Malaysia’s capital market,” it noted.

For the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2026 (3Q26), Bursa Malaysia’s revenue increased 20.3% to RM216.42mil from RM179.9mil in the previous corresponding quarter, while net profit rose 10% to RM70.21mil from RM63.85mil.

This brought its revenue for 9M26 to RM641.46mil, up 19.5% from RM536.86mil a year earlier. Net profit for the nine-month period rose 13.5% to RM214.81mil from RM189.33mil, while earnings per share increased to 26.5 sen from 23.4 sen previously.

Its cost-to-income ratio stood at 54% for 9M26, compared with 53% in 9M25.

Bursa Malaysia attributed its stronger performance to higher market activity, healthy fundraising momentum and the execution of its strategic priorities.

In the securities market, the average daily traded value (ADV) of on-market trades and direct business transactions rose 27% to RM3.4bil in 9M26 from RM2.7bil in 9M25.

Bursa Malaysia said securities market ADV also showed signs of recovery in August and September following more subdued trading in July. In the derivatives market, the exchange operator said average daily contracts grew 19.3% year-on-year to 113,120 contracts.
