On target under the highway: Archers get creative in land-scarce Singapore

An archery range making full use of urban space in Singapore.

IN land-scarce Singapore, innovation is the name of the game – even for archers.

Tucked under a highway viaduct near Pasir Panjang Road, a unique outdoor archery range cleverly uses the island’s limited space.

Managed by the Salt and Light Archery Club, the range has become a hotspot for enthusiasts from all disciplines – Traditional, Olympic Recurve, Compound and Barebow.

Its location near the National University of Singapore makes it popular among students seeking an active escape between classes.

With hourly rates starting at S$20 (RM67) on weekdays and S$25 (RM83) on weekends, it’s also an accessible entry point for those curious about the sport.

Just book a lane online – weekends and tournament days can get busy.

Owing to its success, the club has since opened an indoor, air-conditioned range in Chai Chee, hosting regular tournaments and training sessions year-round.

In a city where space is precious and stress levels high, these urban oases offer something different: stillness, focus and the satisfying thwack of a well-aimed arrow.
