Twenty-two years ago, a grumpy green ogre and his four-legged, buck-teethed sidekick made their debut on the silver screen. The unlikely pair of Shrek and Donkey – together with Fiona, the “cursed” princess-turned ogre – thrilled movie lovers the world over with their antics in the animated feature, Shrek.

The trio, and a handful of other regular characters, again made appearances in three sequels over a period of nearly 10 years, with the last film released in 2010 (Shrek Ever After).

But the ogre fever did not end there as there were a few Shrek-themed seasonal TV specials, video games and even “4D” simulation rides at Universal Studios theme parks around the world.

Now, fans of Shrek can get to experience living in a swamp just like their favourite character. Sort of.

Shrek’s Swamp is a unique stay located in the Scottish Highlands that’s featured on Airbnb.

Independently owned and operated by Ardverikie Estate, Shrek’s Swamp is available for booking on the platform, for an exclusive two-night stay (up to three guests) on Oct 27.

The property is, of course, not a swamp but is actually a close replica of Shrek’s “swamp house” from the movies. It even has an outhouse that’s “really really” located 20m from the main living area.

Registration for booking opens Oct 14 at 1am (Malaysia time) at airbnb.com/shrek.

Take note that this is not a contest, even though there is no payment needed for the stay. However, guests who are successful would need to arrange for their own flights to and from Scotland, as well as other transportation needs.

The digital booking platform will make a one-time donation to the HopScotch Children’s Charity, which provides some of Scotland’s most vulnerable and disadvantaged children with respite breaks through nurturing and dynamic holiday trips.

Not only were the two clubs ranked among the cream of the region’s golf resorts, but their inclusion in the list also guaranteed them spots in the overall Top 100 Golf Resorts in the world standings.

“Having two Top 100 Resorts in one golf destination is a true testament to the calibre of golf in central Vietnam,” said Adam Calver, director of Golf and Marketing at Laguna Golf Lang Co, in a press release.

The resort boasts a Nick Faldo Signature Design golf course, and is complemented by two exclusive accommodations, Banyan Tree Lang and Angsana Lang.

According to golf.com writers, who reviewed and ranked the courses in the list, Ba Na Hills Golf Club “... feels like a place apart, with a tranquil atmosphere that stands in quiet contrast to the bustle of Danang.”

The writers also praised the variety of landscapes incorporated by Faldo into his design at Laguna Golf Lang Co. The course is sandwiched between the ocean and jungle-clad mountains, offering golfers a range of challenges.
