The Datai Langkawi closed temporarily for 10 days due to Covid-19 cases

The Datai Langkawi is closed from Nov 22 to Dec 1 due to Covid-19 infections.

A luxury resort in Langkawi, Kedah has decided to shut down operations for at least 10 days due to Covid-19 infections.

The Datai Langkawi released a statement to say that it is closing its doors for a minimum of 10 days – beginning today (Nov 22) – following a detection of 16 positive Covid-19 cases among the resort's employees.

According to the resort, the cases were detected during one of its testing exercises, which The Datai Langkawi does randomly and regularly as part of its own efforts to keep its staff and guests safe. The patients were then immediately isolated, and all close contacts (up to the secondary level) were traced and tested.

It is during this "extensive and meticulous" tracing investigation that more positive cases were detected and confirmed. This prompted the resort's management team to activate a quarantine order for all those affected.

"Going beyond prescribed protocols, and out of an abundance of caution and concern for the well-being of guests and employees alike, the management of the resort has also initiated temporary closure procedures," the statement said.

The Datai Langkawi worked with the Ministry of Health and other authorities to implement further actions such as initiating a professional deep cleaning and sanitising on all areas of the resort, including the staff quarters.

"The health and safety of our guests and our 493 employees consistently remain the utmost priority for The Datai Langkawi, and resort management will continue to follow the strictest health and safety protocols and procedures that have been implemented since March 2020. The resort is in stringent compliance with the rules and regulations issued by the government of Malaysia as well as recommendations made by the World Health Organisation in the shared efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19," the statement read.

For those whose hotel bookings are affected by the temporary shutdown, the resort offers a free change of dates or cancellation without penalty, or a full refund. Check the website (thedatai.com) for updates and details of the closure, or call 04-950 0500 or email reservations@dataihotels.com.
