Fashion’s latest hero? The humble scarf takes on a leading, indispensable role

For the latest fashion season, one accessory has shifted from afterthought to focal point: the scarf.

No longer a simple seasonal add-on, it is emerging as the defining element of a look – the piece that sharpens, completes and often elevates an outfit on its own.

What sets this season apart is not just the scarf’s popularity, but its range.

Wearing it around the neck remains the baseline, but styling has expanded well beyond it.

Folded into a triangle and tied at the hips, it replaces a belt with a softer, more fluid silhouette. Wrapped around a bag handle or tied into a ribbon, it refreshes familiar accessories instantly.

Worn over a cap or styled as a headscarf, it taps into a Gen Z sensibility – relaxed, playful and slightly subversive.

Runways underscore the shift from accessory to centrepiece.

At Celine, the scarf emerged as a core visual language, integrated into silhouettes rather than added on.

Ferragamo wrapped scarves low on the hips like wide belts, creating an elongated, almost gothic elegance, while Chloe and Louis Vuitton amplified their presence through leather interpretations.

Maison Margiela and Dries Van Noten explored layering – tucking scarves into trousers or draping them as wrap skirts – while Hermes incorporated them into structured looks, blurring the line between garment and accessory.

In some cases, the transformation goes further.

Designers are treating scarves as garments in their own right, integrating them into tops and outerwear so they shape the silhouette itself.

The implication is clear – it is no longer an accent, but a structural and stylistic device.

Still, the broader context matters. Today’s fashion landscape resists uniform trends, favouring personal interpretation over prescriptive styling.

The scarf’s strength lies in that flexibility – it adapts to individual taste, whether worn with restraint or layered for impact.

A single scarf can reframe what is already in rotation, adding color, texture and movement to otherwise simple looks.

In a season defined by self-expression, it may be the most efficient styling tool available. – The Korea Herald
