In a fast-changing world, it was especially heartwarming for nearly 60 former students of Convent Holy Infant Jesus School (CHIJ) Muar to come together for a reunion celebrating their shared years at the school from 1972 to 1982.
Held at the Remington Hotel in Muar, the gathering brought together former students who travelled from across Malaysia, as well as from Australia, Singapore and the United Kingdom, making it a truly meaningful homecoming.
The school graciously opened its doors on a public holiday, allowing the former students to return to their alma mater and relive cherished memories of their school days.
As these once-young classmates walked through the familiar classrooms and corridors, they were filled with nostalgia, laughter and the warmth of a friendship that had endured through the decades. Every corner seemed to awaken fond recollections of lessons, friendships and the formative experiences that shaped their youth.

A highlight of the reunion was the gracious presence of a former principal, Mrs Ho, who attended the event with great warmth.
She expressed her joy at seeing her former students once again and shared her pride in how each had grown, flourished and contributed meaningfully to society.
In her remarks, she reminded everyone to continue upholding the enduring spirit of the convent and its cherished school motto, “From each her best.”
At the conclusion of the school visit, the school song, Keep The School Torch Burning, was sung with heartfelt gusto and spirit, stirring deep emotions among all present.
As a gesture of gratitude and appreciation, the alumni also presented a monetary contribution to both their Primary and Secondary alma maters in support of their respective Education Funds.

Back at the hotel, the women spent a delightful evening enjoying a slideshow of class photographs and candid snapshots that captured many joyful moments from their school days.
As favourite songs from their youth filled the room, they celebrated by singing and dancing together, rekindling the carefree happiness of earlier years.
Adding a special touch to the evening, they also enjoyed mee siput, a beloved childhood treat uniquely associated with Convent Muar and one that carried with it many treasured memories.
The walk down memory lane continued into the following morning over a sumptuous breakfast of local delicacies, where conversations flowed easily and old stories resurfaced with ease.
As the reunion drew to a close, fresh plans were already being made for future gatherings. More than simply revisiting the past, the reunion stood as a celebration of enduring friendship — strong bonds formed over five decades ago that continue to transcend race, religion, creed and socio-economic backgrounds.
