An increasing number of content creators are embracing the Year of the Snake by showcasing fun and creative craft ideas to welcome the Lunar New Year.

From do-it-yourself snake-themed wall decorations to intricate paper cuttings featuring the snake zodiac, these creators are gaining traction by sharing easy-to-follow craft ideas suitable for all ages.

These crafts are simple and ideal for pre-schoolers and elementary students, making them a perfect activity for families to bond during the festive season.

Paper plate snakes

Fold a paper plate in half and decorate one side by sticking round yellow and red paper circles across its surface. Then, cut out the snake's head from red paper, add eyes and a paper tongue, and attach it to one end of the plate. Finish by adding a tail at the other end.

All you need is a red, square piece of origami paper.

Begin by folding the paper diagonally into eight equal sections, creating multiple triangular layers.

On the folded sides, draw the outline of a snake, including its body and tongue. Carefully cut along the snake design, ensuring the folds remain intact.

Once you unfold the paper, it reveals a stunning interconnected pattern of 16 snakes.

To complete the craft, use a marker pen to draw eyes on each snake.

She starts by rolling out the clay to a certain level of thickness. Next, using a silk screen stencil, she paints over the stencil using acrylic paint. Then, she cuts out the snake shape using a cutter. Next, it is baked in the oven for 45 minutes. Once fully cured, she attaches loops to transform them into earrings.

Looped paper snakes

On TikTok, misonani shares a budget-friendly craft to make looped paper snakes. Materials needed are two A4 card papers.

Cut them into 16 equal rectangular strips. Use two coloured papers to mix and match for a vibrant look. Start by looping each strip into a circle and securing it with tape, glue or a stapler.

Repeat this for all the strips. Then, alternate colours as you thread each new strip through an existing loop before securing it.

Keep going until you have created a long chain that looks like a snake. Draw and cut out a snake head on an extra piece of card paper. Add some eyes and a tongue to give it personality. Use it as a fun decorative piece around the house.
