Lower life expectancy for dementia patients

Women tend to have a better life expectancy than men after being diagnosed with dementia. — dpa

The average life expectancy of people diagnosed with dementia ranges from about two to nine years, finds a systematic review of the latest evidence published in The BMJ medical journal on Jan 8 (2025).

For women, it is about nine years when diagnosed at age 60 to 4.5 years at age 85, while for men, it is from 6.5 years at age 60 to just over two years at age 85.
