BTS rapper RM, made a comment about the older generation, which endeared him and the famous seven-member South Korean band (also known as Bangtan Boys) to many older fans.
In a live broadcast made before bedtime which was recently highlighted in Twitter, he said: “I’ve met some really cool, I don’t know the word, dope (awesome, cool) old people. They got the attitude, you know? They’ve experienced so many things.”
RM was likening going through the ages – 20s, 30s, 40s – to being like a tree’s growth.
“In your 20s, sometimes, you feel sad, lost (referring to BTS’ hit Lost), but someday, as the tree takes its shape, you’ll get to be a really beautiful tree in your 30s and 40s. We can have that some day too,” says the 26-year-old whose real name is Kim Nam-joon.
While K-Pop generally has a huge following, most fans are in their teens or 20s, or even younger, at least that’s what most people think.
But BTS has a following that spans children from as young as eight to senior citizens in their 80s, and it’s comments like RM’s that has drawn them out.
Taking to Twitter to voice their support, the ARMY (which is what BTS fans are called and stands for Adorable Representative MC for Youth) of older fans from all over the world have posted messages on Twitter with the hashtag #DopeOldPeople and tagging BTS's Twitter account, @BTS_twt
