Is it possible to learn mandarin from a Bahasa Malaysia children’s magazine? Yes, it is with Kuntum’s YouTube channel, Kuntum Star where you can learn not just how to speak but write Mandarin with Cikgu Tang.

But that is not all that the monthly magazine with a digital presence, that caters to children from the ages of six to 12, has to offer.

Young minds can satisfy their curiosity as Kuntum helps increase children’s knowledge on a wide range of topics from mathematics and science, to robotics and languages. The magazine is recognised by the Education Ministry of Education and has enriched young minds since 1980. While most of the magazine is in the national language, there is also some English content.

Besides inculcating good values, children can discover more about the world around them through science experiments, do their part to help conserve the environment, and learn how to cook special dishes. Children can even go on exciting adventures with Kuntum’s mascots – Pintar and Comel.

Children who wish to unleash their creativity can join and have their masterpieces featured in the “Sketch and Colour” section.

Kuntum seeks to create a happy and healthy time of bonding between children and their parents, teachers and friends through its stories and activities.

During the movement control order, the importance of technology and digitalisation has become more apparent. Children have had to turn to e-learning while schools were closed during the MCO. Now that schools have reopened and children are back to classroom learning, digitalisation continues to be important.

Children are more exposed to the digital world with devices and gadgets being readily available to them. To cater to this, Kuntum offers parenting webinars on relevant topics.

This month’s session entitled “It’s time to have the (Internet) talk” is in collaboration with Tenaga Nasional and features certified parental coach and ceo of Smart Parents Network Zaid Mohamad.

The workshop will provide parents with strategies they can implement to ensure a healthy balance in using digital devices, overcoming digital addictions, keeping children safe while online, and more. The two-day workshop is free but registration is required.
