In the 1990s, Taiwanese actress Joey Wong was hailed as one of the “four flowers” of Hong Kong cinema, along with Maggie Cheung, Cherie Chung and Rosamund Kwan.
The A Chinese Ghost Story star, however, retired 21 years ago and moved to Canada to lead a quiet, spiritual life devoted to Buddhism.
Nonetheless, the 58-year-old continues to captivate fans whenever she is spotted in public.
Recently, netizens in Vancouver reported sightings of Wong – first at a supermarket and then at a local gym – with both moments instantly sparking online buzz.
At the supermarket, the former screen goddess was photographed in a simple black T-shirt, slippers and her hair tied in a ponytail.
She was seen shopping alone for vegetables and lining up at the cashier just like any ordinary person.
Fans praised her humility and down-to-earth lifestyle:
“She actually buys groceries herself instead of having someone else do it!” wrote one netizen.
“Even in casual wear, she’s still a long-legged beauty,” noted another.
Soon after, another netizen shared photos of Wong walking into a gym in a loose black outfit, glasses and mask, her signature long hair flowing.
Netizens were impressed by her timeless beauty, with one remarking: “She looks only 40!”
This year, it was also reported that Wong started her own wellness business by opening a moxibustion therapy centre in Vancouver.
Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that uses burning mugwort on various parts of the body to stimulate blood flow and energy.
According to a report by 8days.com in February, Wong even made a rare appearance in a Xiaohongshu video to promote her new venture while reflecting on her life journey.
“The first half of my life was full of struggle, exploration, and confusion, while the second half has been more focused on inner peace, physical health, and spiritual enrichment,” she said.
“After stepping away from acting, I ended up pursuing moxibustion. People say that when you let go of yourself, you can find freedom and liberation.”
