Former Hong Kong artiste Don Li Yat-long has opened up about the immense pressure of caring for his ailing parents amid financial constraints.

In a recent video on Xiaohongshu, the 43-year-old shared that at this stage of life, having sick parents is “more frightening than not earning any money”.

He then recalled learning that his father had been diagnosed with cancer on the eve of his birthday, saying: “My hands were shaking when I looked at the diagnosis.”

Li also revealed that his mother now relies on a walking stick due to leg problems, adding to the strain of caring for his cancer-stricken father.

“Perhaps this is what a middle-aged breakdown feels like – afraid of getting sick, afraid of being poor and afraid to admit I can’t cope,” he said.

According to Hong Kong news portal HK01, Li spent nearly HK$200,000 (RM108,311) in just one week on medical expenses.

The former singer, who announced his departure from the entertainment industry earlier in June for personal reasons, admitted that life has become extremely challenging for him.

He previously revealed that he juggles five jobs a day just to cover daily expenses.

Many netizens and colleagues from the industry have left since supportive messages, expressing hope that the Li family can overcome this difficult period together.
