Hong Kong actor Eric Tsang has responded to rumours about TVB facing declining profits ever since he took over as the broadcaster’s general manager in September 2021.
The 72-year-old star recently appeared on the variety programme Trump Card, where he took part in a rapid-fire Q&A game with Chinese actor Tang Guoqiang.
The segment started with intensity as the two exchanged a series of sharp, pointed questions.
At one point, Tang, 73, asked Tsang for his thoughts on netizens’ claims that TVB’s profitability has declined in recent years.
To this, Tsang calmly disagreed and emphasised that everything the broadcaster does is grounded in substance.
“TVB produces content, and content is king. Nothing we do lacks substance. We create content, so TVB will never decline,” he said.
Tang then pressed further with another pointed question: “Some say it’s because you became general manager that it’s not doing well?”
Tsang told him not to believe everything he sees online as most of the information posted is misleading.
“Let's look at the facts. When I first joined (as general manager), TVB was running at a loss. We’re profitable this year,” he said.
