Hong Kong-based actress Kristy Yang, who first shot to fame after winning the Miss Asia crown in 1995, has long been admired for her talent and striking looks.

The Shanghai-born star has often been praised as a “classical beauty” and even hailed by fans as “the most beautiful Miss Asia”.

In recent years, Yang, 51, has opted for a quieter life, focusing on travelling with her mother while occasionally sharing glimpses of her daily moments on social media.

Recently, she uploaded a short video on Douyin – the Chinese version of TikTok – documenting a high-speed rail trip with her mother.

“Whenever I’m travelling, my eyes light up. I forgot to take high-quality photos, so just make do with this,” she wrote in the caption.

In the clip, Yang appeared barefaced with a chic short hairstyle and a face mask.

While many praised her natural charm, some netizens drew attention to the slight hollows under her eyes, with one even commenting: “Looking like this, you’d be unrecognisable walking down the street.”

Despite the criticism, Yang remained unbothered and responded with poise: “That’s exactly the point! I don’t want to be recognised. That way, I feel free!”

Her graceful response has won over netizens, who praised her simplicity and high emotional intelligence. Others also said she remains as beautiful as ever.

Yang made her film debut in 1996 with Comrades, Almost a Love Story – a performance that earned her a nomination for Best New Performer at the Hong Kong Film Awards.

She went on to become a familiar face on ATV, starring in dramas such as King Of Gamblers (1996), The Snow Is Red (1997), My Date With a Vampire (1998) and more.

Yang's career took a hit in 2002 after she became romantically involved with Chinese tycoon Zhou Zhengyi, who was married at the time.

The actress later clarified that she had not known he was married during their relationship.
