Actor and comedian Zizan Razak said the content from the local film and TV industry needs to be of higher standards in line with the taste of the modern viewers.
The actor said he is looking to diversify the characters he'll play in future films and will not be accepting roles that he has previously played on the big screen. "So far, I've accepted some offers and rejected others. The reason why I rejected some was because I've played that character before," he explained to Gempak recently.
As an example. the 37-year-old shared that he was offered a role which required him to play a crazy character. "I don't want to say that crazy characters aren't good but I've read the script ... it feels like it's not in line with 2021."
Zizan claimed that by observing the current trend and taste of audiences, writers should make changes to their scripts. Drawing comparison to the quality of Korean, Tamil and Hollywood films, the actor stressed that the local scene would be at the losing end if they do not study their weaknesses.
The actor added that audiences are more discerning with what they choose to watch as there are many streaming services available. "People have their tastes when it comes to choosing what they want to watch. So, it is up to us to ensure our product is of similar quality," the Polis Evo star said.
