Malaysian model Lisa Ch’ng and Hong Kong actor Mat Yeung made headlines after tying the knot at a five-star hotel in Kuala Lumpur on Aug 2.
Before the wedding banquet, the couple held a traditional Chinese tea ceremony, where they paid their respects and served tea to their elders.
Speaking to local media, Ch’ng, 39, shared that the meaningful ritual left her deeply touched.
“Both Mat and I cried when we served tea to my mum. When it came to my mother-in-law, I was also emotional and nervous. The atmosphere was very joyful,” she said.
Ch’ng, who is based in Hong Kong, added that seeing her elders present made her feel she had finally fulfilled something they had been looking forward to for a long time.
“Seeing the smiles on their faces was really moving,” she said.
Meanwhile, Yeung, 45, revealed that his mother was overwhelmed with emotion during the ceremony and struggled to hold back her tears, while his father remained calmer.
The TVB star also shared that his mother-in-law reminded him to take good care of Ch’ng, to which he promised: “I will take good care of her.”
Yeung said he felt relieved after completing the tea ceremony, but admitted he did not have time to feel nervous as he was too occupied with wedding preparations.
“I simply didn’t have time to feel anxious. The banquet had about 30 tables and around 300 guests from Malaysia and Hong Kong,” he said.
During the interview, the couple also opened up about their plans to start a family.
Yeung said they would ideally like to have a son first, followed by a younger daughter.
“I’d like to have a son first, then a daughter, so the elder brother can protect his little sister,” he explained.
Ch’ng also revealed that her husband has always hoped to have a daughter.
“But he believes girls should have someone to protect them, so he’d prefer to have an older son first,” she said.
Ch’ng and Yeung first met while working on the TVB sitcom Come Home Love. The couple went public with their romance in 2016.
Earlier this year, Yeung said he hoped to hold a grand wedding banquet rather than settle for a simple registration ceremony.
Ch’ng also previously shared that she would marry no one else but Yeung.
