Hong Kong’s biggest broadcaster TVB is now headed by actor-host Eric Tsang.
The 68-year-old has been appointed as TVB’s new general manager of its content operations.
Tsang – who joined TVB almost three decades ago – was first appointed as the deputy general manager and special adviser to the administrative committee in January.
In a press statement shared on news portals, Tsang's duties are said to include creating various types of content for non-drama, co-produced drama and music, as well as acquisition of programmes.
It further stated that Tsang has “successfully reinvigorated (TVB’s) non-drama programmes by broadening content diversity and re-establishing links and cooperation with Hong Kong's entertainment industry”.
One of the successes TVB experienced thanks to Tsang is the recent Miss Hong Kong 2021 pageant, which drew 1.8 million viewers.
He’s also credited for creating the hit reality game shows Dub-Of-War and Stars Academy.
Of late, TVB has been criticised for its content especially in the drama department. And this apparently continues to be the case.
While the rating for its variety programmes has improved, it’s reported that its latest drama Murder Diary is the lowest-rated TVB drama of all time.
