Upcoming drama series Hellbound – which stars Yoo Ah-in (Burning) and Won Jin-a – is invited to the 46th Toronto Film Festival (TIFF)’s PrimeTime Program.

The series is from director Yeon Sang-ho, based on his webtoon The Hellbound, which he co-wrote with Choi Gyu-seok.

Director Yeon is no stranger to international film festivals having taken his first film – The King Of Pigs – to Cannes Film Festival back in 2012. It was the first South Korean animated film to be presented at that festival.

Yeon had returned to Cannes with his films Train To Busan and Peninsula.

His Hellbound series being invited to the Toronto Film Festival happens to be a first for a Korean series.

The Netflix series centres on supernatural beings appearing on earth and condemning people to hell.

In the midst of this chaos, a new religious group named The New Truth pops up led by Yoo’s character. But not everyone is convinced of the group and its leader.

The 46th Toronto Film Festival is scheduled to take place from Sept 9 to 18, 2021.

PrimeTime section explores works where the line between television and film are not defined. It was first introduced in 2015 and shows like Heroes, Transparent and Black Mirror have been showcased in this section before.
