It may only be the beginning of 2022, but there is already reason to celebrate auspicious new F&B tidings in 2023.
Popular New York-based fast casual restaurant chain Shake Shack will be opening 10 outlets in Malaysia by 2031, with 2023 marking its first opening.
“We continue to be blown away by the enthusiasm of our fans throughout the world and are thrilled to announce our further development in South-East Asia,” says Michael Kark, Chief Global Licensing Officer of Shake Shack.
“This represents our sixth country in Asia, and together with the SPC Group, we expect to have more than 45 Shake Shacks across Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia by 2031.”
Shake Shack Inc. and licensee SPC Group (a leading global food company based in South Korea) will expand their partnership with their Malaysian footprint, which increases the total number of contracted Shake Shacks with SPC Group to 45 by 2031.
The fast-casual restaurant may now have expanded to over 350 locations in the United States and 120 international locations (including Hong Kong, Dubai, London, the Philippines and Singapore) but its journey to international expansion began through humble roots.
The original Shack Shack was a hot dog cart set up in Madison Square Park in New York in 2001 and was actually meant to support the Madison Square Park Conservancy’s first art installation but was such a hit that queues formed daily three summers in a row.
In 2004, a permanent kiosk opened in the park and the rest is history.
Shake Shack is renowned for its 100% all-natural Angus beef burgers, chicken sandwiches and flat-top Vienna beef dogs (antibiotic-free and hormone-free), spun-fresh frozen custard, milkshakes, crinkle cut fries, craft beer and wine and more. Some outlets even have dog treats crafted for man’s best friend!
The chain also alludes to local predilections – some Hong Kong outlets for instance have milk tea shakes!
The popular chain is also known for the snaking queues that typically trail outside each outlet, most notably in the United States. New outlets overseas also often boast serpentine queues.
Needless to say, the brand also has a strong celebrity fan base, with actress Tina Fey once saying that a meal at Shake Shack represents the end of a perfect day for her.
With the Malaysian expansion, Malaysian foodies can soon finally experience the sort of indulgent meals that have captivated so many people across the planet.
