Baristas to get creative, battle it out in latte art finals tomorrow

THE Digital Latte Art Throwdown 2021 is an avenue for baristas to compete, learn and grow while having fun brewing and designing a cup of coffee.

Organised by Malaysia Specialty Coffee Association (MSCA), the competition is an entertaining platform for participants to showcase their latte art skills — drawing patterns with milk foam on the surface of a serving of coffee.

Participants are assessed on creativity, technique, visual attributes, contrast in patterns and overall performance. Assessing them are professional judges as well as audience members who will be invited as guest judges.

From the semi-finals on Dec 1 to the finals tomorrow, it is obvious that only the best will reign.

Milklab, Australia’s popular barista milk for coffee, is the official plant-based milk sponsor of the pioneer Digital Latte Art Throwdown 2021.

Competitors will showcase the high performance of latte art creation using Milklab Oat milk.

Only Milklab Oat milk will be used in the competition, demonstrating its prowess in latte art design as it performs just like dairy by creating a strong contrast, fine micro-bubbles and robust stability.

Baristas are required to prepare two cups of coffee with two different original designs, one determined by a spinning wheel and the other by a default design that they must imitate to the best of their ability in a limited time.

It requires a barista with skill, speed, talent, creativity and control to become the Digital Latte Art Throwdown champion.

Competitors will receive eight one litre packs of Milklab Oat milk for the competition.

Milklab is sponsoring RM2,080 worth of merchandise, in addition to RM3,500 worth of cash prizes sponsored by MSCA, amounting to a total of RM5,580 of merchandise and cash prizes.

Milklab Oat milk is now available in Malaysia through select participating cafes and food service outlets.
