KUALA LUMPUR: Foreign investors extended their net selling streak on Bursa Malaysia to a third consecutive week, recording net outflows of RM549.1mil, according to MBSB Research.
In its weekly fund flow report, MBSB said foreign investors were net sellers on all five trading days during the week ended Aug 21.
The highest net outflow was recorded on Monday at RM190.5mil, followed by Tuesday at RM188.3mil and Wednesday at RM124.7mil.
Net selling moderated towards the end of the week, with outflows of RM34.9mil on Thursday and RM10.8mil on Friday.
According to MBSB, the top three sectors that recorded net foreign inflows were utilities at RM141.8mil, transportation & logistics at RM56.6mil and healthcare at RM31.8mil.
The largest net foreign outflows were recorded in financial services at RM420.1mil, technology at RM161mil and consumer products & services at RM101.6mil.
Meanwhile, local institutions extended their net buying streak to a fourth consecutive week, recording net inflows of RM591.1mil.
Retail investors reverted to net selling after a week of net buying, recording net outflows of RM42mil.
Average daily trading volume (ADTV) increased across all investor classes, with retail investors and local institutions rising 13.3% and 13.2%, respectively, while foreign institutions recorded a 3.2% increase.
