KUALA LUMPUR: Ingram Micro Malaysia hosted a panel discussion called The Future of Virtualization in collaboration with Dell Technologies, Microsoft, Nutanix, Virtuozzo and Sangfor Technologies.

Virtualisation, by definition, is about creating simulated environments and virtual representations of physical systems like storage, networks, operating machines, servers and other devices. These industry experts collectively shared their perspectives and agreed that while there are challenges, there are solutions available to mitigate market changes.

As the event’s main organiser, Ingram Micro Malaysia is distributing different virtualisation options as a leading technology company for the global information technology ecosystem that offer customers a full suite of solutions.

Ingram Micro Malaysia executive managing director Yoon Kam Fei said the organisation’s primary role as a distributor of information technology (IT) and artificial intelligence (AI) offerings is no longer confined to just selling products and solutions, but to value add by providing support and service delivery to customers.

“As part of adding value to our customers’ journey, we organised this joint panel discussion with key industry players to shed light on the future of virtualisation and the strategies we can adopt to stay agile and meet the needs of modern enterprises,” said Yoon, the panel moderator.

He added that customers are looking for cost-effective alternatives that are technologically feasible in meeting their virtualisation needs.

“This panel discussion is timely and provides an opportunity for customers to explore available solutions that these vendors can offer to support a successful migration pathway,” added Yoon, who also lauded the diverse origins of the global brands being represented in the panel.

Yoon shared that CIOs and IT managers are constantly faced with the upward challenge of managing ever-increasing IT expenses and would require help with not just finding the right solution at the right price point, but in assessing a robust enough technology for their specific environment within the immediate short and mid-term of over three to five years.

“To add to their pain point, they must ensure a successful migration. This is where Ingram Micro and these vendors play a crucial role in guiding customers through this journey, providing solutions that meet their needs,” said Yoon.

Panellist Virtuozzo APJ sales and global business development vice president Ahmed Amni said the company offers flexibility to the market by moving from a proprietary solution to a productised open-source solution that can be integrated into the customer’s ecosystem.

Sangfor Technologies cloud business director Keith Lee agreed that it is vital for customers to engage vendors with an open ecosystem so they do not feel locked into a specific vendor should they wish to perform system migration in the future.

“We understand that customers can be concerned about risk should they decide to move from one platform to another,” said Dell Technologies infrastructure solutions group director Miguel Rivera.

“The cost of migration can be complicated and businesses would want to protect the investments they already made – we are here to help and to offer assessments,” Rivera added.

Microsoft’s Asean leader (AVS, Azure Infra and SAP) Thet Htun Aung shared that while there are numerous options available, there are pros and cons with various considerations to be made and therefore, vendors play the crucial role as trusted consultants to customers based on their business requirements.

For Nutanix, its systems engineering manager for Thailand, GEMS, Surak Thammarak observed the transformative trend moving forward to cloud-native applications and hybrid multi-cloud with an increased adoption of cloud services and open-source platforms.

In their wrap-up, the panellists collectively identified key factors that may raise customer confidence in deploying any of their solutions.

They concurred that one of the foremost factors is having local presence in the market in order to be close to their customers who require timely and on-site support. The team should consist of operational experts, remote assistance and delivery.

To create trust among undecided customers, the panellists said to emphasise strength in their robust technology and in their proven track record of customer case references and success stories.

The panellists agreed – the common goal is to complement one another rather than compete in the market. Offering the best solution to customers depends on each use case and the desired business outcomes, as there is no one-size-fits-all approach. The best strategy is to create a customised solution with the right technology to meet business needs.
