Brunei schools shine in Thailand

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei continues to achieve success on the international stage as two schools from the country secured top honours and received awards at The 2nd International Student Project Excellence Award (ISP) 2026, organised by Prince of Songkla University.

The competition was held on May 7 at the Royal Phuket City Hotel, Thailand. The participation of six students and two supervising teachers in the competition was coordinated by the Ministry of Education through the Science, Technology and Environment Partnership Centre (STEP Centre).

In the Social Science Category – Upper Primary Level, Rataie Primary School emerged as the champion through its project ‘KantinKu’.

The award was presented by Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prince of Songkla University Professor Dr Afifi Lateh, as the ceremony’s chairperson.

The school was represented by Nur Alya Syafiqah Ahmad Sufi, Nur Aliya Ali Sufian, and Muhamad Rafid Nur Aiman Ramli, who were accompanied by an Education Officer from the school, Noorhasyimah Nadrah Ahmad.

Meanwhile, in the Social Science Category – Upper Secondary Level, Sayyidina Ali Secondary School secured second place (1st runner-up) with its project ‘From Paper to Platform: An AI-Enabled Learning Management System for Brunei Secondary Schools’.

The award was presented by Dean of the Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University Associate Professor Dr Yotsawee Saifah.

The school was represented by Erene Nicole Edanan, Nur Rifqah Athilah Azzyati Muhamad Zainin, and Nur Imanina Aziz, who were accompanied by another Education Officer from the school, Muhammad Hasif Nordin.

This competition aims to encourage students from educational institutions worldwide to develop analytical skills, critical thinking and creative problem-solving abilities through project-based learning in the fields of science and social sciences.

The achievements not only bring pride to the schools but also enhance the international profile of the country, reflecting the excellence of the national education system, which is rooted in strong values, innovation and the principles of 21st-Century learning.

The achievement stands as a testament to the high level of commitment, creativity and dedication demonstrated by the students, complemented by the continuous guidance and support of their teachers in elevating knowledge and educational innovation.
