BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A total of 120 tourists from Hong Kong, who were on a one-day tour of Brunei recently, were impressed with the country’s unique mosques and its warm, friendly people.

The group of students visited two mosques, Istana Nurul Iman, as well as the Billionth Barrel Monument and Seria Energy Lab.

The tour bus also travelled around Bandar Seri Begawan to take a closer look at the streets and daily life in the heart of the capital.

Principal of Newman Catholic College Henry Ng said, “Actually, we have heard a lot about Brunei in Hong Kong; however, in reality, we did not know much about the country. Therefore, we decided to visit Brunei and open the eyes of the students.”

Asked about the most memorable part of his visit, Henry Ng said, “Visiting the mosques was the highlight of my trip, as they are rich in history and culture. We were able to gain a deeper understanding of Brunei’s history and monarchy.”

He also mentioned that the Billionth Barrel Monument, facing the South China Sea, offered impressive views and a memorable experience.

On Bruneian youth, he said, “They have vast opportunities to broaden their horizons, as citizens are provided free education, while the government offers support and assistance to help young people further develop their skills, knowledge, and potential.”

He added, “We were impressed by the warmth and friendliness of the people of Brunei. We will always cherish our experience here and look forward to sharing these wonderful memories with others.”

Prior to arriving in Brunei, the Hong Kong students also participated in a four-night programme in Miri, visiting tourist destinations. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
