BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Ministry of Defence (MinDef) has confirmed that all members of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces deployed in Lebanon are safe following two deadly incidents involving the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.

In a statement, the ministry said two Indonesian peacekeepers were killed in an explosion of unknown cause near the village of Bani Hayyan in southern Lebanon on Monday (March 30). In a separate incident on Sunday, another explosion at a Unifil position claimed the life of an additional Indonesian peacekeeper.

The ministry said RBAF personnel remain unharmed and are continuing to operate as part of the UN peacekeeping mission.

It added that Unifil has implemented necessary force protection measures to ensure the safety of all contingent personnel, while the situation in the area continues to be closely monitored.

The ministry also urged the public to refrain from spreading speculation or unverified information, warning that the dissemination of false information is an offence under the Public Order Act. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
