BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Effective Jan 1, 2026, PosBru – a wholly-owned subsidiary of Darussalam Assets Sdn Bhd and licensed under the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) – will assume responsibility for all postal operations previously overseen by the Brunei Postal Services Department (BPSD).

In preparation for the sector’s privatisation, PosBru convened an Open Day on Wednesday (Dec 10) to brief government agencies, industry players and business customers on how the corporatised postal model will function.

The session marked one of the first major public engagements since the government initiated the corporatisation policy.

Representatives from ministries, statutory bodies and commercial clients attended the briefing, which outlined PosBru’s operating structure, service offerings and strategic direction.

Opening the event, Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC), Hairul Mohd Daud Abdul Karim, underscored the importance of transparency during the transition.

He said the session provided an avenue for stakeholders to better understand the policy shift and raise questions regarding PosBru’s new role.

PosBru presented its operational framework and highlighted plans to modernise Brunei’s postal landscape in line with global digital trends.

The transition is intended not only to reform administrative structures but to strengthen efficiency, innovation and long-term competitiveness.

Under the new model, PosBru aims to implement a more customer-focused and efficient delivery approach; expand business capabilities and market reach; drive development of modern, innovative postal products; and create broader employment and commercial opportunities.

Stakeholders were encouraged to engage in open dialogue, with discussions focusing on service continuity, regulatory oversight and PosBru’s integration within a rapidly evolving digital economy.

Officials also stressed that staff welfare remains a central priority. MTIC, PosBru and Darussalam Assets have implemented a comprehensive communication plan — including small-group engagements, town hall sessions and one-to-one briefings — to ensure employees receive clear information on service terms, benefits and career paths under the corporatised structure.

All BPSD officers and staff will be offered roles within PosBru, with the transition expected to open pathways for career development in a more dynamic corporate environment. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
