Brunei, Philippines reaffirm strong defence ties

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Ministry of Defence (MinDef) of Brunei Darussalam received an official visit from Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines General Romeo Saturnino Brawner Jr Wednesday (Oct 15) morning.

Upon arrival at the Bolkiah Garrison, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines welcomed by Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) Major General Datuk Paduka Seri Muhammad Haszaimi Bol Hassan, was accorded a general salute followed by an inspection of the guard of honour mounted by Royal Brunei Land Forces (RBLF) personnel.

Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines General Romeo later paid a courtesy call on Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Defence II Pehin Datuk Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Datuk Paduka Seri Awang Halbi Mohd Yussof.

During the call, both sides reaffirmed the strong and enduring defence relations between Brunei Darussalam and the Philippines, and exchanged views on regional and geopolitical developments of mutual interest.

Awang Halbi also emphasised the importance of strengthening cooperation through joint training, expertise sharing, and mutual exchanges between the two Armed Forces.

Earlier, the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines called on the Commander of the RBAF.

He expressed appreciation for the RBAF’s continued support as well as cooperation in strengthening the close ties between both Armed Forces, while also reaffirming the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ commitment to further enhance this cooperation.

Brawner Jr is also scheduled to visit various units under the RBAF, as well as cultural and historical sites of Brunei Darussalam. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
