With its stellar cast and suspense-filled storyline backed by three major production houses in Malaysia, “Qifarah” is expected to be one of the hottest horror films of the year.
As the official distributor and marketing partner, Primeworks Studios proudly presents the official trailer – now available to watch across the social media platforms of Skop Productions, MyWay Pictures, Primeworks Studios, and Astro Shaw. The movie also makes its debut in Malaysian cinemas from Friday (Oct 9).
During the gala night premiere in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday (Oct 6), the producers also added that besides Malaysia, they are hoping for success also in the markets of Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, and Thailand. Australia is also another destination under the purview of the local distributors.
Directed by prolific filmmaker Ghaz Abu Bakar, this film is set to shake cinemas across Malaysia starting on Friday (Oct 9), leaving audiences with an unshakable sense of dread.
"Each scene is designed to have an effective impact. From the set design, lighting, props, to every detail of the character's clothing and accessories, all elements are given attention.
"I want every viewer to feel the intensity of the world of 'Qifarah' and the lessons it wants to convey, with visual and sound elements that leave a deep impression and are not easily forgotten after leaving the cinema," said Ghaz Abu Bakar.
Ever since the poster and official trailer dropped, social media has been buzzing about the film’s bold take on horror. Packed with mystery and heart-stopping jump scares, viewers aren’t just startled – some even admitted they couldn’t sit still while watching.
Combined with its nerve-wracking visuals, chilling sound effects, and suffocatingly eerie atmosphere, “Qifarah” has quickly become the talk of the town and is haunting audiences even before its release.
Adding to the excitement, the film boasts an all-star Malaysian cast. Remy Ishak, Sharifah Sakinah, Liyana Jasmay, Namron, Rita Nadira, Vanidah Imran, Esma Daniel, and Rafique Iskandar deliver powerful, emotional performances that are sure to grip audiences from start to finish.
As the saying goes, “misfortune comes without warning,” and that perfectly captures the chilling feeling brought to life in the “Qifarah” movie.
“Qifarah” tells the story of Yusoff (Remy Ishak), who finds himself entangled in his family’s dark legacy of black magic. A shocking call about his ailing father, Ghazali (Esma Daniel), forces him to return from Cairo – reopening a past he had tried to bury. But his homecoming unravels dark secrets, old grudges, and haunting shadows that refuse to let him go.
Running at one minute and 30 seconds, the official trailer for “Qifarah” sets the tone for a fresh and daring horror experience.
It teases elements of dark, mystical rituals shrouded in mystery, delivering a strong shock factor. The trailer not only sparks curiosity but also ignites heated discussions among viewers. On social media, fans are now more eager than ever for its release.
And the movie is also enhanced by a superb performance by Sharifah, who acts as the main antagonist. She just excels as the mysterious "Mak Wah", who happens to be the character that keeps adding mystic layers to the movie from the word go.
"In fact, I'm not so fond of horror movies. It is not my cup of tea, but amazingly, I act a lot in such movies. But as a professional, I must always accept the fact that directors like to see me act in such roles," said Sharifah.
"But the character is very interesting and has a fascinating personality. It was indeed an honour to be selected for this movie."
But throughout the movie, Sharifah is also ably supported by the likes of Remy, as the conflicted character and main actor, together with the likes of Liyana, the sister of the main character, and the ever-classy Vanida, who comes in as the mother for Remy's character.
All in all, local horror fans can look forward to a fast-paced 90-minute thriller, which is set to have an excellent run at the box office.
As the legendary director Datuk Yusuf Haslam, the head of Skop Productions, said after the event on Tuesday: "Watch the movie and enjoy a thrilling tale which is actually a locally made production. The twists and turns in the movie will certainly excite the fans."
