Lao health ministry strives to enhance healthcare services

VIENTIANE (Xinhua): Laos' Ministry of Health continues its efforts to ensure the provision of comprehensive, high-quality, and equitable healthcare services, contributing to the well-being of all ethnic groups and promoting a high life expectancy.

Officials from the Lao Ministry of Health gathered in capital Vientiane on Thursday to review the implementation of the 2024 health plan and financial work, while also setting the direction for the 2025 plan, according to the ministry's report on Friday.

In his speech, Health Minister Bounfeng Phoummalaysith emphasized that despite challenges such as staffing shortages, natural disasters, economic issues, and budget limitations, the health sector made significant progress under the leadership of the Party, the ministry, and local authorities.

The 2024 plan was implemented based on local conditions, resulting in improvements in healthcare services, better disease control, and progress in reducing maternal and child mortality.

Additionally, the meeting also emphasized the need to focus on health system infrastructure and urged collaboration across departments and provinces to ensure that future plans are effective, appropriate, and aligned with the country's health objectives. -- Xinhua
