Laos to advance border trade strategy to strengthen trade connectivity

VIENTIANE (Xinhua): Laos has reviewed a Border Trade Development Strategy for 2026-2035, aiming to strengthen trade connectivity, expand regional integration, and support long-term economic growth.

A meeting was held here on Wednesday to review and approve the draft research paper for the strategy.

The session focused on presenting preliminary research findings and discussing the strategic direction for the country's border trade development over the next decade, according to a report from the Lao Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

The approved draft, marking an important milestone in shaping Laos' border trade policy, aims to enhance bilateral trade value and strengthen Laos' role as a regional transport and connectivity hub.

As of 2025, Laos has 98 border checkpoints nationwide. As a landlocked country, Laos continues to prioritize border trade development to boost production, expand trade, and attract investment. - Xinhua
