Philippines to host Asean Summit with Filipino warmth, says First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos

MANILA, May 2 (Bernama-PNA) -- First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos on Saturday expressed the Philippines’ readiness to welcome the heads of state and delegates to the 48th Association of South-East Asian Nations (Asean) Leaders' Summit in Cebu.

According to Philippine News Agency (PNA), Araneta-Marcos convened a meeting with Leaders’ Liaison Officers at Malacañang Palace in Manila on April 30 as part of government preparations for the summit, scheduled for May 7 and 8.

In a Facebook post, the First Lady said the liaison officers "will be guiding each delegation every step of the way.”

"Good teamwork, great results,” she said. "Because real Filipino hospitality is in the little things done right.”

In an Instagram post, Araneta-Marcos said the country would welcome participants with Filipino warmth and thoughtfulness.

"Game time soon. Ready to welcome ASEAN the Filipino way -- warm, thoughtful, seamless,” the post read.

As ASEAN Chair for 2026, the Philippines will host summit-related events in multiple locations, including Cebu and Manila.

Araneta-Marcos has been active in overseeing preparations for the ASEAN summits, focusing on careful planning, cost-efficiency, and hospitality excellence.

The Cebu event will gather heads of state, senior officials, and delegates from ASEAN member states, as well as dialogue partners and representatives of international organisations.

Delegates are expected to engage in high-level discussions on political, economic, security, and socio-cultural issues affecting Southeast Asia.

The summit will serve as a platform for regional leaders and international partners to coordinate policies, strengthen cooperation, and address pressing regional and global challenges. -- BERNAMA-PNA
