VIENTIANE: Ahead of International Labour Day, Laos paid tribute to workers across all sectors, recognising their daily efforts in driving national development.

To mark the 140th anniversary of International Labour Day, various sectors across the country held activities highlighting the history and legacy of the global labour movement, as well as the development of the Lao working class, which has actively contributed to national preservation and development over time.

Workers are recognised as a key force in production and in driving socio-economic development.

Sinpaserd, a 37-year-old office worker in Lao capital Vientiane, said workers across all sectors play an essential role in keeping society functioning smoothly.

He emphasised that everyone has their own responsibilities in maintaining an orderly society and driving national development.

"Whether in offices, factories, or fields, every worker contributes in their own way and helps the country move forward. I deeply respect all workers because development cannot happen without cooperation from every sector," he told Xinhua.

He also expressed gratitude to workers at all levels and wished them good health and continued efforts in contributing to the country's growth.

Boupha, a farmer in Vientiane, emphasised the importance of all workers, highlighting the crucial role of farmers in ensuring food security and feeding the Lao population.

She noted that farmers are often seen as simple laborers, but in reality, they are the ones who produce food for the entire country.

She added that, alongside work in leadership roles, the efforts of farmers are reflected in every harvest that supports the nation.

Likewise, the contributions of on-site workers are essential in helping the country move forward across all sectors of development.

Duangchanh, a resident of Vientiane, also highlighted the physical demands and collective efforts behind infrastructure development, noting that building roads and public facilities is hard work but meaningful, as the results of these efforts are visible to everyone.

Each completed structure helps support communities and contributes to economic growth.

She stressed that all forms of labor, whether physical or intellectual, play a vital role in strengthening the nation and driving national development. - Xinhua
