VannDa continues to push Khmer music onto global stage

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia has reached a new chapter in history: one where its culture is spreading to neighbouring countries and attracting growing international interest. This was emphasised by renowned Cambodian rapper VannDa (pic), whose real name is Mann Vannda.

“As interest in Cambodia increases, we strive to incorporate more and more elements of Khmer identity into our work,” VannDa told a March 7 press conference.

“We have to move forward together, and I can confidently say that Khmer music has never been at this level before. We are truly strong,” he said.

Baramey Production announced that as part of its partnership agreement with Tiger Beer, VannDa will release his third album, Treyvisai (Compass), in three phases.

The first installment, TREYVISAI I: The Search for Light, is set for release on March 14, followed by TREYVISAI II on March 21 and TREYVISAI III on May 1.

“We have also planned a large-scale, high-standard concert for this third album, with Tiger as the main sponsor. The concerts will be held in two locations: 'Treyvisai Legacy' on May 3, in Battambang province, and 'TreyvisaiSovannaphum' on May 17, in Phnom Penh,” said the production company.

VannDa shared that he and his team dedicated immense effort to the album, completely reshaping its format.

“We’ve come this far thanks to the support and belief in Khmer music, as well as the hard work of artists - both senior and emerging - who have contributed to opening doors for Cambodian music in the international market. This is helping create new opportunities for its continued development,” he said.

VannDa remains committed to producing music that showcases Khmer culture to a global audience, ensuring that international listeners recognisse and appreciate Cambodia’s unique sound.

The rapper has already taken Khmer music to Thailand, Vietnam, Japan, the US and even the Paris Olympics closing ceremony.

His latest album serves as a metaphor for direction and self-discovery, reflecting his personal and artistic journey.

“I want everyone to listen to this album because it tells a story - a journey through life, the time I have invested in music and a new milestone for Cambodia, as this is the first time a Cambodian album has been divided into three parts,” VannDa explained.

In addition to his album, The Rapper Cambodia Seasons 2 and 3 will make a return, with the production team promising an even better experience. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
