Frenchman, Cambodian woman die in Phnom Penh inferno


PHNOM PENH (Khmer Times): Cambodian police are urgently investigating the cause of a deadly fire, which killed a French national and a Cambodian on Saturday.

Colonel Prohm Yorn, Director of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Office of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police, stated that the fire occurred at 11:25 am on November 30, 2024 in a rented room at 46, Street 558, Village 12, Sangkat Boeung Kak I, Khan Toul Kork, Phnom Penh.

Colonel Prohm said that after receiving information from residents that a fire was burning in a house with people trapped inside the house, he immediately ordered fire trucks and firefighters to intervene.

The fire was brought under control at 12:15 noon.

On entering the location, police discovered the bodies of a French man and a Cambodian woman.

Unofficial sources named the deceased as Ny Srey Oun, female, 22 years old, Khmer, occupation: hairdresser, nail artist and DERAI JEROME MARCEL LEON, male, 56 years old, French.

Authorities stated they could not yet confirm the cause of the blaze. - Khmer Times
