Hong Kong screen star Sean Lau is no stranger to Asian cinema, having won multiple awards and accolades throughout his career spanning four decades.

Despite his achievements, the 62-year-old has always maintained a simple and modest lifestyle with his wife, former Miss Hong Kong Amy Kwok, whom he married in 1991.

According to Ming Pao Weekly, a netizen recently shared on social media that their relative had unexpectedly bumped into Lau while riding the MTR.

In the sighting, the actor was dressed casually in a face mask and black jacket.

Even in his laid-back attire, he was quickly recognised by the relative, who attempted to discreetly snap a selfie.

However, it turned out that Lau was already aware he was being photographed and graciously responded by flashing a peace sign, adding a light-hearted touch to the selfie.

The moment quickly gained attention on social media, with many netizens amused by Lau’s quick response.

Others also praised the award-winning actor for being gracious and simple, instead of flaunting his celebrity status.

“Wow, he’s so nice and down-to-earth. There’s no hint of arrogance in him at all,” one user commented.

Another added: “He’s such a funny person. It’s so refreshing to see!”

Beyond his screen accolades, Lau has long been praised for his humility and humour.

A memorable moment highlighting those traits came in 2016, when he was spotted shopping for groceries at a street market in Kowloon.

At the time, Lau adopted the persona of an “ordinary citizen” when approached by reporters.

In the interview, Hong Kong media referred to him simply as “Mr Lau, a member of the public”.
