5.2-magnitude quake hits Philippine Islands Region on Tuesday (Aug 6), confirms GFZ


BEIJING, Aug 6 (Xinhua): An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 jolted Philippine Islands Region at 0539 GMT on Tuesday, the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 10.0 km, was initially determined to be at 7.82 degrees north latitude and 127.24 degrees east longitude.

Philippine seismology agency Phivolcs said in an advisory it was not expecting damage from the offshore quake, but warned of aftershocks.

Earthquakes regularly strike the Philippines, which sits along the "Pacific Ring of Fire", an arc of intense seismic and volcanic activity that stretches from Japan through South-East Asia and across the Pacific basin. - Xinhua
