BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Borneo Bulletin/Asia News Network): Trainees of the Youth Development Centre (YDC) in the final year of Level 2 Diploma in Food Preparation and Culinary Arts (Patisserie) received The Brunei Book of Records certification for the longest Swiss roll measuring 84.03m, and sushi roll measuring 75.7m in the country on Tuesday (Dec 13).

The presentation at the opening day of YDC Carnival (Mini Expo) at Dewan Muhibbah, Brunei-Muara District Office was witnessed by Permanent Secretary (Youth) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Zakaria Serudin.

According to teaching staff in culinary arts at the Youth Development Centre Nur’Aeidah Kamis, 15 trainees from Level 2 Diploma in Food Preparation and Culinary Arts participated in the making of the longest Sushi roll while 10 trainees of Level 2 Diploma in Food Preparation and Culinary Arts (Patisserie) created the longest Swiss roll.

“This was a final-year project for the trainees. Alhamdulillah, we struggled a bit in the beginning but with the dedication of all trainees and teachers, we managed to overcome the challenges through excellent teamwork. It took us around six hours to make both the Swiss and sushi rolls,” she said.

“Some of the students contracted Covid-19 and couldn’t participate. There was no issue with ingredients, thanks to the supervision of teachers,” she explained.

She hoped all trainees will become independent in the future and through the carnival, could also obtain an income.
