Brunei (Borneo Bulletin/ANN): Parents should be mindful of children showing signs of anxiety and depression and should reach out to help, said Ministry of Health psychologist Nur Hazwana Md Zain during a talk.
“Do not leave the matter unattended,” said the psychologist, adding parents who notice changes in their children’s behaviour or having sleepless night should talk to them.
“Dual communication between children and parents is also important. If a child trusts parents to listen to concerns, they would more easily open up and share them.
“Children also need to be taught about self-care particularly on their mental health,” she said.
Yesterday, the Mawar Association held a programme dubbed as ‘Mental Health in Children’ was organised in conjunction with World Mental Health Day.
The programme aimed at raising awareness about the importance of children mental health among parents and guardians.
Some 47 individuals, including the public and Mawar Association members attended.
According to Mawar Association, the Covid-19 pandemic left an impact on the community’s mental health, especially children who are not familiar with dealing with its pressures.
