BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: A 14-member contingent from the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association (PPNBD), comprising six leaders and eight young scouts, youth scouts and wandering scouts, left the country for Cibubur, Indonesia, to participate in the 12th National Scout Jamboree (JAMNAS) from Aug 13 to 20.
Before departure, a flag handover ceremony for the PPNBD contingent was held at Brunei International Airport.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by a welcoming speech by PPNBD International Commissioner Skip Ritchie Siabu.
In his speech, he hoped that the participants would uphold the good name of PPNBD and Brunei Darussalam, while making the most of the opportunity to gain experience and expand their friendship networks with scouts from other countries.
Meanwhile, Chief Commissioner of Scouts Skip Junaidi Hussin emphasised the importance of maintaining discipline, upholding scouting values and always displaying good conduct as representatives of Brunei Darussalam while abroad.
The highlight of the ceremony was the handover of the national flag by the chief commissioner of scouts to Assistant Commissioner of Scouts for Brunei-Muara Districts and the Contingent Leader Mohammad Najib Maidin.
The contingent was also assisted by Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College Wandering Crew Leader Arif Syaamirul as the Assistant Contingent Leader.
While at the campsite in Cibubur, the national contingent members will participate in various scouting activities, providing them with opportunities to improve their skills, gain new experiences, and interact and exchange knowledge.
The PPNBD contingent will also introduce Brunei Darussalam’s culture through a traditional Bruneian dance performance at cultural night.
The participation also serve as a platform to introduce the culture, traditions and identity of Brunei Darussalam to the international scouting community. The contingent members are expected to return on August 21, 2026. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
